Unlocking responsible geothermal power to match the speed of demand
There are hundreds of gigawatts of always-on, clean baseload energy underlying the Mountain West.
We’ve learned how to harness it.
Now it’s time to scale it.
What we do
The Mountain West Geothermal Consortium convenes state government, project developers, investors, and the wider ecosystem to scale responsible geothermal power in the Mountain West at the speed of load growth. Together we combine the power of the public and private sectors to address the critical barriers holding geothermal back.
Coordinated, responsible permitting reform across jurisdictions to unblock the project approval process.
Permitting
Standardizing financing frameworks and shared risk mechanisms to crowd in investment.
Financing
Identifying, collecting, and disseminating the data needed to find and develop new projects in the region.

Our principles
Targeted
We focus on overcoming specific early financing barriers identified through cutting-edge research and analysis.
Collaborative
We design solutions by consensus with a diverse group of expert stakeholders across the Mountain West energy economy.
Viable
We co-develop solutions that can be implemented with minimal additional resources in a near-term time frame.
Responsible
We champion technology opportunities that are demonstrated to be both effective and environmentally sound.
Who We Are
The Mountain West Geothermal Consortium is led by experts in geothermal technology development and public finance at the Center for Public Enterprise in partnership with Constructive.
We work closely with state officials in the Mountain West as well as an advisory group of next-generation geothermal developers, investors, and offtakers.
Where we work
Our work is targeted in the Mountain West, a region with a rich energy tradition and geothermal resource potential that has led the world in the technical development of geothermal power.
Research & resources
The Center for Public Enterprise, in collaboration with the Consortium, publishes research on the geothermal interventions we’re advancing.
